PostSubject: Crysis 2 review   Mon Mar 28, 2011 3:39 pm

Crysis 2 is set in the distant future where New York is invaded by mysterious aliens otherwise known as the Ceph. You play as protagonist, callsign "Alcatraz", a marine who fights in an epic struggle to save New York from these dangerous creatures. But you are not alone: The Nanosuit 2 has many features and suit modes to adapt to your playing style, be it stealthy or run and gun.

Multiplayer is a frantic panic for thrills and kills, with familiar gametypes such as Team Instant Action ("Team Deathmatch" variant), Crash site (Dominate various areas of map at specified times to gain points for your team), and etc. Multiplayer also features various customization option for custom classes, as well as preset classes for beginners.

Campaign: 9.2/10

I'll admit, Campaign can drag on for quite a bit, and objectives sometimes aren't clearly marked, but overall and experience well worth the money when combined with visuals. The AI is intelligent, (although on console versions can walk into walls sometimes), and will keep you on your feet, with real sight lines, and can spot you from afar. It also features an amazing storyline, although sadly, it'll leave you very confused at times for those who have not played the first Crysis or Crysis Warhead.

Graphics: 10/10

As the first game to implement real-time lighting and ray tracing on the Xbox 360, it hasn't done a bad job, in fact, it has done an excellent job. With the photorealistic graphics, this game's graphics will never cease to amaze you, with the art directors drawing up amazing destructive sceneries combined with CryEngine 3, it's a match truly made in heaven. This game just pushes the benchmark for the possibilities of the 360 into the stratosphere, leaving all the other games in it's high-res dust./

Sound: 8.7/10

The famous German composer, Hanz Zimmer, wrote the score that would even amaze Marty O Donnell, with the perfect song matching directly to the atmosphere of the battle and coming in perfectly at the right time. Although it should really deserve at least a 9/10, unfotunately, most TVs cannot handle the high sound quality that the game produces, and ends up with scratchy music in some cases. Unless you have a gorgeous 5.1 surround audio system, then I suggest you turn the music volume down.

Multiplayer: 7.6

Only good if you have a proper connection to work with, none of that dial-up shit. Customization is pretty extensive, limited in some cases, but you'll never unlock it all unless you have dedication. Multiplayer is absolutely confusing if you don't have a good connection, you can pump a whole mag into someone's back, then they can turn around and kill you in 2 bullets, which is a major hit detection problem in the netcoding. In other words, if you have a bad host, LEAVE AND RUN TO THE HILLS. Overall, it's fun, but you have to make sure your connection is up to speed.

Replay Value: 8.5/10

Multiple difficulties are a painstaking climb, but seeing as it's insanely hard (died 4 times completing on normal), I certainly wouldn't want to run through the whole thing again, given the length as well. But seeing as multiplayer has so much to unlock, and private games with custom settings, you may reconsider.

Overall: 8.9/10

Multiple letdowns, but the core enjoyment of the game makes up for more than that. Sorry I had to cut this review short, so here's the summary;

Great game, don't buy if you're not patient.
